Do you have website or app visitors whose primary language isn’t English? Great news – you can now run Trymata user tests entirely in French, with more languages soon to come!
We’re thrilled to offer French as our first supported non-English language for running tests via the Trymata platform. Until now, researchers could always write their tasks and questions in other languages; but the Trymata testing software itself was only available in English.
With the new changes, the entire test-taking flow from start to finish can be shown to testers in their own language. This new capability will enable Trymata customers to conduct easy, effective research with participants who don’t read or speak any English at all.
This release is part of our broader ongoing internationalization push here at Trymata.
Setting up your French-language user test
When creating user tests in your Trymata account, you’ll now see a new “Language” option on step 1 of the test setup form.
For now, this dropdown will offer options for testing in English or French. (Learn more about the next languages we’ll be offering at the end of this article).
After choosing French as your test language, you’ll always see a helpful “French-language test” indicator at the top while editing that test. This way you’ll never get mixed up and write in the wrong language, even if you’re running different studies in many languages simultaneously.
The translated French test-taking experience
Once you launch your French-language user test, it’s time for the participants to dive in. You can run French-language tests with the Trymata panel, or with your own participants that you’ve recruited.
Either way, the entire test-taking flow – from the pre-test screeners, to the launch page, the recorder, and the post-test surveys – will be presented in French only.
This includes all of the familiar Trymata user testing features like the 15-second impression test, the post-task usability and completion questions, and our built-in quantitative UX survey models like SUS and PSSUQ.
Not every psychometric survey model will be available in every language, as some do not official translations. However, for French we are currently able to offer translated SUS, PSSUQ, and NPS options.
French-language video transcripts on Trymata
Once you’ve gotten your test results back, it’s time to analyze them and see what users had to say! Don’t worry – for your French-language videos, you won’t miss out on our transcription feature.
We’ve started supporting video transcription in a variety of languages, including French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and more. You don’t have to do anything differently to get your transcripts translated; just request them the normal way, and we’ll automatically detect the language spoken.
More languages to come
While for now French is the only additional language that’s live, this is only the first step for internationalization of the Trymata user testing platform.
The next language being rolled out is Spanish, which will be live by the end of January 2025. Portuguese will be released in February.
Languages that we are planning to add further out in the future include Italian and German, and potentially even more; if you’re a Trymata customer and you are interested in testing in a language not mentioned in this article, reach out to your customer success manager!
